Success Story: High School Senior Excels in I-70 Career Academy

Tyryn, a senior at Central High School, enrolled in the I-70 Career Academy. The program gave him valuable preparation for a career, including resume creation, interview prep, workplace expectations.
I-70 Career Academy also included a Virtual Reality (VR) component, which allowed students to explore an array of careers, from veterinary medicine to mechanical and building maintenance. Tyryn’s favorite VR experiences were the fiber optic installation and office work, where he learned about various software.
For his work experience with the I-70 program, Tyryn was selected to work at Kansas City Area Transportation Authority. He job shadowed in several departments at the transit agency, and was most interested in the Safety and Human Resources departments. He also was able to network with KCATA contractors and learn about community development projects. FEC provided the wages and supportive services during the work experience, which included appropriate professional clothes.
Tyryn is hoping to attend college in the fall, with a dual major in business and computer science.
