Summer Job League

The Summer Job League is specially created for Missouri's emerging workforce, ages 16 to 24, who want to get a jump start on their future while earning some extra cash. SJL is a job readiness training and placement program. When you meet the SJL eligibility guidelines you will receive an assessment to determine your skills level, training in skills to help you succeed in the workplace and personalized job-matching that places you in a six-week internship.

  • Earn up to $2,040
  • Eligible youth are provided with a $100 clothing voucher for work wardrobe and bus pass or a $50 QuikTrip gas card for transportation assistance
  • May result in a full-time position
  • Training scholarships available after completion

SJL is operated by the Full Employment Council, offering low-income youth (16-24 years old) job opportunities working in high-tech and high-growth industries. This is a paid internship for young adults in Kansas City, Missouri and in the Counties of Jackson, Platte, Clay, Ray, and Cass.

Take these five easy steps to begin your summer work experience
STEP 1
Register at job.mo.gov
        
STEP 2
Come to an FEC office to determine program eligibility. Only applicants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
PARENTS: please bring proof of household income earned within the past 30 days and proof of  family size.
Applicants must also bring one ORIGINAL document from each of the five listed categories:
¨ Birth certificate, state ID, or alien registration card;
¨ Social Security card,
¨ Current post-marked mail, or school record;
¨ Rental lease agreement, tax return document, or birth certificates
¨ Pay stubs for the past 30 days, or TANF or Food Stamps documents.

INCOME GUIDELINE FOR YOUTH PROGRAM
Youth Programs are based on economic income levels calculated, based on family size and income. Youth must meet the following income criteria to qualify for the program.

 each additional family member add $644.
 
STEP 3
FEC will notify you of eligibility (if you have provided all of the needed documents.)
 
STEP 4
Workforce Academy which consists of resume and interview preparation assistance, workplace training, and a career-readiness assessment. After the 5-day Workforce Academy is completed, you will receive your work assignment.
 
STEP 5
Begin your work assignment! Assignment is for six(6) consecutive weeks regardless of hours worked.cityPeepsWjoinRibbon.png
