Rachel Blaine Success Story

Congratulations, Rachel Blaine
Eastern Jackson County | Independence Career Center
Ms. Rachel Blaine had been working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) since 2013 working part-time and earning $11.90 per hour. She came to the Missouri Job Center in Independence, Mo. and attended the Career Explorations Workshop.  After learning about the opportunities in the healthcare sector available through the Full Employment Council, Ms. Blaine decided to enroll in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at MCC-Penn Valley but needed tuition assistance. She was eligible, through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) adult program for that assistance as well as other supportive services. Rachel was able to successfully skill-up from CNA to LPN. After completing the program and passing her licensing examination, she was hired by KU Medical Center at $17.85 per hour.
