How Do I Start?

What can you expect on your first visit to the Career Center? To utilize all the services of our Career Centers, you MUST REGISTER IN JOBS.MO.GOV!

Come in to one of our Job Centers or FEC branch locations conveniently located throughout the Kansas City region. Click here to find the Missouri Job Center or FEC branch location closest to you! 

Checklist for your first visit -
To move the process along more quickly, please make sure to:
  • You MUST bring in a document showing your date of birth (Examples-Only one of the following is required: Driver's License, State ID, Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Hospital Record of Birth, US Passport)
  • Bring in an updated resume, if you have one (If possible, a copy of your resume saved as a Microsoft Word document on a CD or Flash drive)
To Become a Member, You MUST Attend Orientation and Overview of Services (REQUIRED-Takes Approximately ONE HOUR.)
Overview - Monday-Friday, conducted until 4:15pm daily - One-time information session to learn more about what we offer and how you can benefit from our various programs.

Skills Assessment (Career 101) - You will take a quick assessment to let us know what skills you already have and what you need to work on.

Initial Interview - You will be interviewed by a Welcome Team member that will verify and help you update your documentation and work history. They will direct you to receive the best services available to meet your employment needs. You will be assigned to the Skills Team or the Employment Team depending on your needs:
  • Skills Team - Through various assessments, the Skills Team will help determine your areas of interest and skill level to ensure you are placed on the best career path. Depending on your skills, they may offer suggestions for updating your skills through our various workshops.
  • Employment Team - Once your skill level and areas of interest are assessed, you'll meet with the Employment Team to help you understand the various training opportunities and/or employment leads. You will be guided based on a plan that best meets your overall career goals.
